About the Mears LabOur lab is eager to resolve long-standing questions about the key factors that alter mitochondrial structure and physiology, leading to organelle dysfunction in human pathologies. To this end, we investigate proteins that regulate mitochondrial dynamics to provide mechanistic insight into the regulation of the mitochondrial fission complex and the functional roles of proteins that drive this process.

News and EventsJuly 2023: Welcome Dayanlee!Dayanlee de León Cordero has joined the Mears lab as a PREP Scholar. She completed her BS in Computer Science at U Puerto Rico - Rio Piedras. June 2023: Kristy's Preprint is availableKristy's structural studies of Drp1 in it native state are now available in preprint on bioRxiv. She has identified regulatory interactions that govern assembly of the mitochondrial fission machinery. May 2023: Diekhoff AwardHonored to receive the Diekhoff Awardfor graduate mentoring. This is special since the selection is made by students. Grateful to have lab members that promote the inclusive and welcoming environment that made this possible. Feb 2023: Brianna's Paper out in HMGThrilled to share that Brianna's paper characterizing EMPF1 patient mutations in Drp1 is out. Click here! |
